Single Player
Although far too predictable, MW3′s single player campaign is full of action for the most part with larger levels than we’ve seen before however you always seem funneled towards a certain path, there’s never two possibilities. Huge explosions add to the ambiance and make the whole thing feel a little more ‘real’ but there is still a sense that you’re always heading in that one direction, towards the end of the campaign, nothing overly exciting here.
While BF3 has a lot larger levels that MW3 in single player, more often than not you’ll find yourself running down a corridor or alley towards and objective which can get a little boring after a while. The destructible environments are fun, but are very much scripted. Despite this the single player in BF3 has a sense of realism to it, what you’d see in a real war is perhaps what DICE were going for, no over the top destruction of iconic structures.

Verdict: Modern Warfare 3 (just about)
Graphics
Modern Warfare 3 looks and feels exactly the same as Modern Warfare 2; we’re done here.
BF3 looks amazing, even on console it would be hard to find a better looking game.
Verdict: Battlefield 3
Sound Effects and Ambiance
MW3′s multiplayer voice acting is pretty much the same as previous games, nothing new here. The gun sounds are pretty awful when you compare them directly to BF3 and sounds effects dotted around maps just add to the already amazing ambiance that BF3 multiplayer maps provide.
Verdict: Battlefield 3
Multiplayer Experience
You’ll find yourself wondering why you payed full price for a game that seems more like DLC when you play MW3, everything on multiplayer seems exactly the same as previous games. Now I understand that we shouldn’t have expected a whole lot of change from a game that was fun last time around, but it’s definitely not a game I’d spend a year playing.
BF3′s large maps make a lot of sense after you’ve played them a few times, tactical combat is necessary at times but you’ll often find yourself in a position where you could easily rush your opponents and experience fast paced combat too. These larger maps also make room for a wide range of vehicles: planes, helicopters, tanks & jeeps.
The multiplayer progression system in MW3 has been tweaked a bit but still misses out on Cod Points, something I was hoping would be built on from Black Ops. BF3′s progression system is rock solid, although not as much control over things like perks is given it feels more balanced and newer players could start playing the game in December and still feel like they’ve got enough chance to kill someone who has been playing since day one!
Verdict: Battlefield 3
Overall Winner
It’s the same old stuff we’ve seen time and time again from Call of Duty this year, no real surprises and a disappointing multiplayer result in a game that I’ve already traded in. BF3 on the other hand has innovated enough from previous titles to be well worth the purchase, see you all on the Battlefield!
Verdict: Battlefield 3
